Fall theatre full of magic, spells and potions opens on two different school stages

Whether visiting a school of magic or a magical wintry forest, spells and potions are everywhere with the opening of two theatre productions this week.

¥High School Theatre invites you to Puffs…or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic, written by Matt Cox and directed by ¥drama teacher Kelsey Glasgow.  In the show, we follow wizard in training Wayne Hopkins and his two best friends, math whiz Oliver Rivers and rebel Megan Jones, through seven years of their time at a school of magic. Wayne and his friends are sorted into the Puffs House where they will battle evil, participate in Mug Studies, and try to earn enough points as Badgers to beat Smarts, Braves, and Snakes for the prized House Cup at the end of the school year. It’s a school that “must not be named” here in this promotion, but it probably rings a bell, yes?

The BHS production runs at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 to 11 and Nov. 16 to 18, with 2 p.m. matinees on Nov. 11 and 18. General admission tickets are $10 and are sold at the door or .

Meanwhile, across town, Sehome High School Drama presents A Midwinter Night’s Dream, based on the well-known Shakespearean play of a similar name. This time, the season is the colder one and the frolicking and fun takes place in a winter wonderland. Still, love spells are cast in both the human world and the fairy world, and a group of misfit thespians try to put up a play. What could possibly go wrong?

The play is adapted from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Sehome drama teacher and director Kandace McGowan.

The SHS production runs at 7 p.m. Nov. 10 and 11 and 17, with a 3:45 p.m. matinee on Nov. 16 and a 2 p.m. matinee on Nov. 18. General admission tickets are $10 and are sold at the door or .

With a nod to some of the world’s most loved books and plays, fan fiction never had so much fun. Bring yourself and your magic wand to one or both of these BPS stages this November.
